VOOC, SuperVOOC and Wireless VOOC: OPPO's charging technologies

Among the brands that have emerged over the past few years, we also find OPPO. The telephony giant who, together with Xiaomi, is conquering the market is not only dedicated to the creation of smartphones, but also has its hands in the field of charging technology. In a similar way to what Xiaomi did with his Mi Turbo Charge, this company created not one, but three types of charging technologies that differ from each other for several factors. They were introduced on September 17th in Shenzhen and all three use the name of VOOC even if their full names are 65W SuperVOOC Fast Charge 2.0, 30W Wireless VOOC Flash Charge e VOOC Flash Charge 4.0. Let's see in detail what it is.

65W SuperVOOC Fast Charge 2.0

This kind of ultra fast charging will be mounted on the next smartphone Reno Ace and represents one of the most advanced solutions in the world that allows you to fully charge a battery from 4000 mAh in 30 minutes only. The efficiency of this technology for charging is of another level also from the hardware point of view: in fact, as regards the physical components OPPO has adopted well five security measures on the adapter and on the wire to ensure maximum safety during charging; in addition, the company used semiconductors to gallium nitride (GaN), that they exponentially shorten the charging times e reduce the size of the adapter.

30W Wireless VOOC Flash Charge

This is among the best wireless charging technologies on the market: the reason is that such Flash Charge allows wireless VOOC to be on par with cable VOOC in terms of efficiency and speed. This type of 30W wireless charging allows a battery from 4000 mAh to reach a full charge in 80 minutes. Even devices that cannot receive more than 5W or 10W can take advantage of this recharge. To avoid overheating the devices, OPPO claimed to have adopted "different hardware materials, HDVC and a function of detection of foreign objects": This means that charging is blocked as soon as the device detects a foreign body (perhaps inside the charging slot).

VOOC Flash Charge 4.0

Thanks to one higher charging power than VOOC 3.0, VOOC 4.0 allows you to charge a battery from 4000 mAh at 67% in 30 minutes and 100% in 73 minutes, 12% faster than the previous generation according to data provided by the same company. But that's not all, since OPPO also has suppressed heat generation through a very high efficiency adapter and an advanced battery cell design. What does it mean? That even if you use your smartphone for fairly heavy processes, such as a prolonged gaming session that would normally involve an overheating of the device, the temperature would instead be controlled and there would be no risk of getting hot hands.

AirVOOC 65W

A few months ago the company has also included the AirVOOC 65W. As the name suggests, it is a wireless charging technology that allows you to recharge the device without the need to use cables. The technology in question arrives accompanied by a new charging dock very particular. This is formed inside by a double coil can fully recharge a battery from 4000 mAh in 30 minutes only. This dock will also have a special construction as it is made with a glass plate and an internal fan that allows you to maintain efficiency close to 90% , temperature not above 40 ° C.

Oppo Flash Charge 125W

If the 65W technology wasn't enough, the brand has reached 125W. Flash charge technology from 125W supports 65W USB-PD and 125W USB-PPS and is backwards compatible with devices that integrate the previous standard SuperVOOC for charging from 65w. From the technical point of view it comes current consumption 6.25 A transmitted through a potential difference of 20V. As we previously stated, the battery integrated in smartphones will be divided into two parts and each will use 128-bit microcontrollers to optimize voltage and current flow. The brand said it will integrate ten temperature sensors to keep it below 40 ° C as well as a fuse for overvoltage protection in order to guarantee safety and avoid any risk of fire. The question comes by itself: and the quality of the cell? Oppo confirms that later 800 charging cycles the battery's potential reaches 80% of its capacity.

Lu Weibing explains the problems behind Xiaomi's 100W recharge

[…] Safety: as everyone will imagine, there are safety standards to be respected when building a smartphone and the battery department also wants its stakes. Both the adapter and the charging wire, as well as the connector on the smartphone must be built in a particular way and not like the "standard" ones we know. Think of Oppo using five safety measures for its 2.0W SuperVOOC Flash Charge 65. [...]
